Toe-jam?

Jane was constantly on the hunt for the next exciting crossword puzzle challenge. She loved nothing more than diving into a particularly tricky crossword section and wracking her brain to uncover the answers she needed. It was this passion that brought her to the latest issue of her favorite crossword magazine.

As she worked her way through the clues, one in particular caught her attention. “Toe-jam?” it read, with five spaces to fill. She couldn’t for the life of her figure out what the answer could be. After wracking her brain for a few minutes, she decided to take a break and stretch her legs.

As she walked around her living room, she accidentally stubbed her toe on a particularly sharp corner. The pain was instant, and she yelped out loud. That’s when the connection hit her. Toe-jam was a clue for the word STUB!

Feeling proud of herself for making the connection, she returned to her crossword with renewed enthusiasm. With STUB in mind, she was able to complete the final few clues and finish the puzzle with a sense of satisfaction. From that moment on, she always remembered the clever connection between Toe-jam and STUB, and it became one of her favorite clues of all time.
