As the sun set over the city skyline, the crossword puzzle sat abandoned on the coffee table. “No Country for Old Men” or “The Usual Suspects” had morphed into “NEONOIRFILM”. Jess gasped – of course! Neon noir films, with their dark, gritty themes and neon-heavy lighting, were the perfect answer to the clue.

As Jess triumphantly filled in the answer, the cat looked up at her with a knowing expression. Maybe animals weren’t so clueless after all.
