Beseeched

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the countryside, there lived a kind-hearted beggar named Edward. Edward would often sit by the side of the road and ask passersby for some spare change or food. He was not greedy, but simply needed enough to survive the day.

One day, a wealthy merchant was making his way through the village to attend an important meeting. As he walked along, Edward beseeched him for some help. However, the merchant was not interested in giving any help and was on too much of a tight schedule to do so.

Frustrated and disappointed, Edward began to think of other ways to get the merchant’s attention. He knew that he could not simply give up hope, so he tried a different approach. He went down on his knees, clasped his hands together, and entreated the merchant to take pitty on him and offer some help.

Moved by Edward’s solemn plea, the merchant stopped in his tracks and took a moment to listen. It was then that he realized how much Edward really needed his help. He opened his purse and donated some money to Edward’s cause.

From then on, the merchant would offer Edward support whenever he passed through the village. And to think, it all started with a simple crossword clue, where the answer ‘ENTREATED’ revealed the power of heartfelt begging.
