As I began to unravel the mystery of the crossword clue “Bakery buy,” I thought about the various types of bread one might purchase at a bakery. Additionally, the clue’s emphasis on “buy” hinted that the answer was a type of bread that one would purchase, rather than simply order or ask for. With this realization, the answer crystalized before me: “RYE” was the solution to the mystery of the bakery’s buy.
